Just got my Crackberry Storm and I’m making my first post from it.

America’s Got (No) Talent

So, I see more and more people get into “photography”, and more and more people get into the entry level DSLRs like the Nikon D40/60, or the Canon EOS line.

Many of these people call themselves “photographers”.

Well, news flash.

You’re not.

Here’s the deal.

When you buy one  of these cameras, at least learn about how a camera works, and learn to use it properly.

Leaving the damned thing on the automatic setting just basically means you bought yourself a pretty expensive point and shoot camera where you zoom by twisting the lens with your left hand and not by flipping or pressing a lever.

Sure, Nikon, Canon, and a few other companies designed their cameras to be “user friendly”, and thus threw on this automatic setting for even a four year old to use, but why would you buy that kind of camera just to use the auto setting?

I miss that, back in the day, cameras were made where everything was manual.

Manual aperture setting.

Manual shutter speed setting.

Manual focus.

Manual film winding (well, this could have been bypassed if you had a motor drive).

Back in the day, when you were a photographer, you had to learn to use a camera the proper way, and it was something that a person has to be passionate about to get into, because of the use of film.  The cost of film adds up over time, so photography was a relatively costly thing to get into, when you factor in the different things you can buy for the camera, like a dedicated flash, a motor drive, different lenses, etc.

Nowadays, people buy a DSLR, call themselves a “photographer”, leaves the damned camera on full auto, and snaps 4 pics a second to try to compensate for the fact that they have no skill.

Sorry, but these people need to STFU and GTFO.

At the least, they should try to use the full manual setting, learn how to change the aperture and shutter settings, and learn the different functions/features for the camera before you go out there and call yourself a “photographer”.

The “photographer” career, in my opinion, has been saturated by a bunch of idiots that have no talent and no skill, but have expensive gear to make up for their lack of everything important in the photography business, and people tend to think that the better someone’s gear is, the better they must be.

I’m sorry, but I have seen the work of someone who has D200s or D300s or whatever high end Nikon DSLRs, and their work sucks.  Not going to name names, but they are local to me, and lots of people have used their services, and most of them are appalled when they get the pictures, finally, after months of waiting, and having paid what they did for their services.

Another scum in the business only because of their equipment.

That’s what I’m trying to get at.

People like that remind me of people driving automatic Neons or Focus (is Foci the plural form of multiple Ford Focus?  lol) thinking they’re all Michael Schumacher on the road, thinking they’re the hottest shit since sliced bread.

Or the dudes with Vipers and Vettes that can’t even get the car away from a red light without stalling or close to stalling the cars, and yet talk mad shit whenever they have the chance to.

I think our past president Teddy Roosevelt summed it up best for me: “Carry a big stick and speak softly.”

Let your work do your talking for you.  When you have “a big stick” ala good work, just let it speak for you.  No need to talk shit or go around tell everyone with your big, loud mouth about how good you are at something, when you have absolutely no idea what’s happening, because your gear’s doing everything for you.

Again, for those of you that are that type of people, here’s my advice: STFU and GTFO.

Economic downturn = blog downturn??

Yeah, so I’ve been busy lately, and all the pic from the Canada trip is on Krystal’s laptop, which isn’t on a whole lot these days, so I haven’t been able to get it off of her comp.

And lately, since I’m friggin poor due to Krystal still not able to find a job, I barely go out anymore, thus no new pics or anything for the blog.

No worries, only like, one person reads this blog anyway.
