Creedence Clearwater Revival

Posted in Travels on May 8, 2009 by sosideways

They were an awesome band.

But the point of this post is because I couldn’t think of anything clever for the title  lol

So last weekend, Krystal and I, along with some friends, went to Blue Springs Park in FL to enjoy a day of R and R.

We met up by a Walmart by the interstate and got some supplies, and we were on our way around 9am.  Took about an hour to hour and a half to get there, so I think it was like 10-10:30 by the time we got there to the park.

It was already getting hot, like mid 80’s already.

So my buddy Anthony has told me that he’s gone scuba diving there before, and that the water is 72 degrees all year round.  Doesn’t sound so bad, actually sounds way decent.

That is, until you actually get in the water.

Going from, what is by then, low 90 degree weather, with a body temp of 98.7 degrees, and going into 72 degree water, is quite the shock.  No wonder those dudes that does the crab fishing up in Alaska die when they fall into the water from their crab boats.

Once you’ve been in the water for a few minutes though, you get used to it and it’s quite pleasant.  Until you have to make the next plunge, and get your junk wet.  Pretty sure all the dudes became chics for a few seconds during that little transitional move.

After getting used to it though, it was kinda funny watching other people get in and make the same “HOLY FUCK” exclamations and what not.

Since it was our first time there, we didn’t know what to expect, and thus, we were totally not prepared for the journey ahead of us.

The current was kinda fast and strong.  Strong enough to push you forward even if you’re just trying to stand there and get a hold of your bearings and plan your next step, because the bottom of the river was lined with jagged rocks and fallen logs.  Some of those logs weren’t laying down on their side, but instead were sticking straight up.  Stepping into those would mean serious injuries, and I almost stepped onto one of those.

Where the “entrance” into the stream is, you can either just go downstream, which we did first, and would have been a really relaxing and chill experience if only we had brought with us some tubes to just lay on/in and float down stream, or you could go up stream and end up where the water comes from: an underwater cave.

Here’s what the cave looks like from above:

That dark slit towards the middle, that’s where the cave is.  Around there, water is about 12 feet deep from the surface to the entrance of the cave, so you can’t stand around there like pretty much everywhere else on that creek.

After some exciting water adventures, we went back to base camp to eat.

Them burgers and brats were good.

But we weren’t the only ones eying the food.  We had company.

You may or may not be able to see it, but that’s a huge fucking hawk just chilling on top of that branch, eying our food.

At one point, I was about halfway done with my first burger (I had already had a brat on buns), and that bitch came straight at me.  He got to about 3 feet away from me, and at the last second, called off his air strike.

I fucking made eye contacts with that thing, which had his talons/claws pointed right at me, and I thought I was gonna get my face ripped off of me.  It happened so fast I couldn’t do anything but to just clutch my burger and let out an “OH SHI….”

He went back to that branch after his first strike was a crash and burn.

So after that, I shook it off, and finished my burger.  I then got up and picked up another burger, which was 1 out of 3 burgers sitting on a plate on the table that I was at, and walked over to the other table where the buns and condiments were.

No sooner than I had gotten the burger on the bun, that hawk came down again, and took out the plate with the remaining 2 burgers on it.

He got one, but the other one flipped off of the plate when his claws hit it.

That plate got FUCKED UP.  Didn’t get pics, but just imagine like, Wolverine went ape shit on the plate.  That’s kinda what it looked like.

Overall, it was a fun trip.  Got a little sunburn, but whatever, I am fine now.

Canada trip pt. 1

Posted in Travels on March 14, 2009 by sosideways

Been busy as hell so far here in Canada, but I decided to take a few min and make a post at least.  It’s a novel, so grab some popcorn and a drink, and get comfy.

So we woke up at around 4:30am for our trip to Canada on Wednesday morning, only having sleept for 3 hours or so, and we ended up being on time for once.

Got to the airport and actually was early enough that we were able to walk around a little bit before going to our gate.

Krystal standing in front of the Guess store at the airport.

We actually went into a dog store and the Oakley store and tried on a few pairs of sunglasses and BS’d with the clerk for awhile.  Cool dude.

Waiting at the gate.

Took a couple of pics on the little tunnel thing that leads to the plane.

^ I liked that pic because it had a horror film type vibe to it.

On the plane now.

^ That screen was a touch screen, but it was way off.  Wherever you poked at the screen, the arrow was like, up and to the right.  It was annoying as hell.

Pushing off.

A couple of ads in the airplane brand magazine.

^ That one’s for you Anthony.

^ That XM guy was fucking awesome.  So I took a pic of it.

I saw Def (from FA, Zilvia and NRR) on the plane today!!

So we get to Canada, and I took another tunnel pic.

^ Not as cool as the first one, but it’s still kinda creepy, because it’s all dark in the background there.  Looks like we’re all walking into the dark unknown.

Crazy decoration around a skylight.

Crazy Canucks.

Baggage claim area.  Place was pretty huge.

After that, my mom and aunt came and picked us up from the airport and went straight to lunch.  We took some pics of the food with Krystal’s LG Dare, but the pics are too big for wordpress or something, so I couldn’t upload them here.

Once I figure out how to get those pics up I’ll make another post.

Then after lunch we were running around trying to find a place that made custom cakes that wasn’t normal looking, and we finally found one.  The cake was for my grandpa’s birthday, which is one of the main reasons we came up here to Canadia.

Afterwards, we went out to dinner, which, again, took pics with the LG Dare, and Krystal took some pics w/ her D60, so if I can get some of those pics on here I’ll put it into a food post or something.

That pretty much wraps up the first day of our adventure in Canadia.
